What happens? Parties generally last about 3 hours. We start with our staff leading the group through a brief introduction of climbing at the gym. The adults who are present learn how to belay, which is how to catch climbers using our equipment. If you prefer not to belay, extra staff members are available at an additional cost. Kids are then free to climb at various stations, use the bouldering room, and take breaks. They generally tire after an hour, which becomes a good time to stop for any food you’ve arranged. They then climb again until they’re too tired to continue, which usually isn’t more than another hour. They usually leave tired and happy! It is very important that everyone that is coming to the party(non-participants as well) have a signed waiver by a parent or guardian, not just a friend's parent. The last thing that we want to do is not let someone climb.
Why a climbing party? Climbing is challenging and fun! You have to work at it, physically and mentally, but the feelings of accomplishment are well worth the effort. Climbing is new! The vast majority of kids (and adults) haven’t even tried climbing before so a climbing party will most likely be a novel experience for you and your guests. Climbing is educational! You probably aren’t looking for this quality in a birthday party, but this is a benefit we think is worth mentioning. During the party both kids and adults will learn and apply basic climbing skills. Many enjoy the experience enough to come back again on their own.
What do we provide? We provide all the climbing gear you’ll need including harnesses, shoes, ropes, belay devices, and carabiners. The facility has plenty of climbing for participants of different abilities. You’ll also have our viewing room with table and chairs for whatever food you may bring along. You get one staff person dedicated to your party.
Who should come? A climbing party is best for 6 to 10 participants. While there is no age requirement for climbing, it is generally more difficult for younger (less than ~8) children to enjoy the experience for more than a few minutes because it requires so much effort and concentration. Participants do need to be at least 12 years old to belay, which is catching climbers using our equipment. We teach some of the parents or friends how to belay (rope handling skills) to help with your party. Having some friends stay as chaperones is a big help as well.
How much? Parties cost $200 for 6 to 10 youth. This includes a $50 non-refundable deposit needed to hold your reservation. Additional participants cost $11 per person. If no adults can stay for the party, additional staff can be arranged, well in advance, for an additional fee.
Why our climbing gym? With over 9,000 square feet of wall space, 20 ropes worth, and the largest bouldering room around, we have plenty for your party to do. The Gym is locally owned and operated by a small staff dedicated to the sport and passionate about teaching.
So, how do I sign up? Just call to request a time. You can sign up for when the gym is closed and we'll open just for you. A $50 non-refundable deposit will complete your reservation. Waiver
